Funeral of King Constantine II of Greece

Royal Guests from around the world joined the Greek Royal Family for the the Funeral of King Constantine II of Greece at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens at noon on January 16th, which will be followed by the Burial in the Royal Cemetery at Tatoi Palace. The former King Constantine II was an Olympic Gold Medalist before becoming the Sovereign for nine years and then being exiled for over 40 years, returning to Greece only a decade ago.

The Coffin of King Constantine II was taken in Procession from the Lying-in-State in the Chapel of Agios Eleftherios to the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens, followed by Crown Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos and Prince Philippos, when the late King’s Greek Royal Orders, Danish Royal Orders, and the Order of the Golden Fleece were laid alongside his Olympic Gold Medal.

Afterwards, Crown Prince Pavlos and members of the Greek Royal Family greeted members of the Foreign Royal Families arriving for the Funeral Service at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens, which was officiated by Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens.

Afterwards, sixty Royal Guests and Relatives attended the private Burial in the Royal Cemetery at Tatoi Palace, at which the Coffin was bourne by the King’s sons and grandsons to a small Chapel, where prayers were held before the Coffin was transported to the burial plot.

After the Burial, Royal Guests and Relatives attended a Reception hosted by Queen Anne Marie at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens, which followed a Dinner hosted by the Greek Royal Family at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens last night.

Earlier that morning, the Coffin of His late Majesty King Constantine II of Greece was Lying-in-State in the Chapel of Agios Eleftherios of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens where it lay from 6:00 am. to 10:00 am, so members of the public could pay their respects.
