Jewels of Princess Astrid of Norway

Last week, we received the sad news of the passing of the beloved Princess Astrid of Norway, Mrs Ferner at the age of 94! The late Princess Astrid wore, received and inherited many spectacular Royal Heirlooms, some of which have or will return to the main Royal Family while others are set to remain with her descendants!

Queen Alexandra’s Turquoise Circlet

Queen Alexandra received this spectacular Turquoise Circlet from King Edward VII on her Birthday in 1902, which was inherited by their daughter, Queen Maud of Norway, and worn for decades by her charismatic granddaughter, the late Princess Astrid.

Fate: The Tiara will now return to the main line of the Norwegian Royal Family.

Vasa Tiara

The late Princess Astrid wore the striking Vasa Tiara over the past 75 years, which was a wedding gift to her mother, Crown Princess Märtha, from the City of Stockholm in 1929.

Fate: The Tiara will now return to the main line of the Norwegian Royal Family.

Princess Astrid’s Gold Bandeau Tiara

This Gold Bandeau Tiara was thought to have been artificial until it was inherited by late Princess Astrid from her grandmother, Princess Ingeborg of Sweden, in the 1950s, but was revealed to be a two-centuries old Royal Heirloom.

Fate: The Tiara will remain with Princess Astrid’s Descendants.

Princess Astrid’s Ruby Aigrette Tiara

This Ruby Aigrette Tiara was Queen Maud’s wedding gift from ‘Lady and Gentlemen Friends’ which was worn for decades by her granddaughter, the late Princess Astrid, who joked that “one [antenna] receives London and the other Moscow”

Fate: The Tiara will remain with Princess Astrid’s Descendants.

Princess Astrid’s Diamond Aigrette Tiara

The late Princess Astrid inherited this spectacular Diamond Wing Aigrette Tiara from her grandmother, Queen Maud of Norway.

Fate: The Tiara will remain with Princess Astrid’s Descendants.

Queen Sophia’s Diamond Bracelet Bandeau

Queen Sophia’s Diamond Bracelet Bandeau was the versatile Swedish Royal Heirloom that was given as a Wedding Gift to Crown Princess Märtha of Norway and then passed to her daughter, Princess Astrid.

Fate: The Tiara will remain with Princess Astrid’s Descendants.

Crown Princess Märtha’s Turquoise Necklace

Crown Princess Märtha of Norway received this magnificent Turquoise Necklace as a Wedding Gift from her parents-in-law, which had originally been given as a Wedding Gift to her grandmother, Queen Lovisa of Denmark, from her parents-in-law 60 years earlier.

Fate: The Necklace should return to the main line of the Norwegian Royal Family.

The Norwegian Emerald Parure

The Norwegian Emerald Parure was the Napoleonic Jewel that went to Brazil and Sweden before becoming the Norwegian Royal Family’s most spectacular Heirloom, being worn by Princess Astrid when she served as the Norwegian First Lady in the 1950s and 60s.

Fate: The Tiara and Parure were passed along to Queen Sonja in 1968

Queen Josefina’s Diamond Tiara

Empress Joséphine’s Diamond Tiara is the Napoleonic Heirloom that has passed through the Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian Royal Families for over the past 200 years, being worn by Princess Astrid when she served as the Norwegian First Lady.

Fate: The Tiara was passed along to Queen Sonja in 1968

Queen Maud’s Order of Victoria and Albert Bracelet

Queen Maud’s Order of Victoria and Albert was a Confirmation Gift from Queen Victoria, which was left to her granddaughter, the late Princess Astrid, who gave the Bracelet as a Confirmation Gift to Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra a few years ago.

Fate: The Bracelet was given to Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra in 2019

Queen Maud’s Pearl Bow Brooch

This Pearl Bow Brooch was the Rothschild Wedding Gift to Queen Maud of Norway, which was worn for decades by her popular granddaughter, Princess Astrid.

Fate: Not known but may return to the main line of the Norwegian Royal Family.

Queen Maud’s Diamond Brooch

Queen Maud’s Diamond Brooch was the British Princess’ splendid wedding gift from her Danish groom, who became the Norwegian King, which was worn for decades by their granddaughter, the late Princess Astrid.

Fate: Not known but may return to the main line of the Norwegian Royal Family.
