Happy Birthday to Princess Christina, Mrs Magnuson, who turns 75 today. The youngest of the four daughters ‘Haga Princesses’ of Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden, Duke of Västerbotten and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, she is the next elder sister of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, and is also the first cousin of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece. After the death of her mother, Princess Sibylla, in 1972, she served as the ‘First Lady’ of the Swedish Court for her grandfather, King Gustaf VI Adolf and her brother, until his wedding in 1976. In 1974, Princess Christina married Tord Magnuson, losing her style of Royal Highness and receiving the courtesy title of Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnuson. The couple have three sons, and she is the only one of the King’s sisters to regularly attend Royal events. In 2016, Princess Christina was diagnosed with chronic leukemia, from which she has been making a steady recovery. She recently announced her retirement from Royal Duties. I wish her a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!

  1. I can totally understand her decision to retire from official duties. She needs to focus on her health and enjoying her life. I will miss seeing her at royal event, though I think she might still attend some from time to time.
