Happy Birthday to King Philippe of the Belgians, who turns 57 today. Born the eldest son of then Prince and Princess of Leige during the reign of his uncle, King Baudoin, Philippe was 2nd in line to the Belgian Throne. Through his grandmother, Queen Astrid of Belgium, and aunt, Grand Duchess Joséphine Charlotte of Luxembourg, he is a cousin of King Harald V of Norway and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg. Educated in Belgium, the UK and the US, he also served in the Royal Military Academy in Brussels. In 1999, then Crown Prince Philippe married Mathilde d’Udekem d’Acoz. The couple have four children, with the eldest, Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant, set to succeed him. In 2013, his father, King Albert abdicated, and he became King Philippe of the Belgians. I wish His Majesty a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy returns. Click HERE to read all of the posts on King Philippe.
