Traditionally referred to as the Día de la Hispanidad, the La Fiesta Nacional de España commemorates the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus for Spain on 12 October 1492. The Princess of Asturias, who also holds the title of Princess of Girona, was joined by King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and Infanta Sofia for the 2020 and 2021 Princess of Girona Foundation Awards Ceremony in Barcelona. The Princess of Girona Awards are given in the categories of Arts and Letters, Business, Scientific Research and the Social field, for young people who stand out for a brilliant, constant and determined career, which contributes value and with the clear will to induce changes in our society, through cooperation and effort. This month, Royals from around Europe have been actively following the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as 2020 UEFA European Championship, UEFA Euro 2020, or Euro 2020, the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Europe organised by the Union of European Football Associations.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain are hosting President Moon Jae-In and First Lady Kim Jung-sook of South Korea, on a 2-day State Visit to Spain to strengthen political, economic, and diplomatic ties, on June 15th and 16th, which is the first incoming Royal State Visit since the start of the pandemic. The King and Queen visited South Korea in 2019, following the Enthronement of Emperor Naruhito of Japan.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain were accompanied by the Princess of Asturias and the Infanta Sofía, as they presided over the launching ceremony of Submarine S-81 “Isaac Peral”, at the Navantia Shipyard in Cartagena on April 22nd, the first of a series of four submarines that will enter service in the Spanish Navy in the coming years. King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain are on a two-day State Visit to the Principality of Andorra on March 25th and 26th, to highlight and reinforce the ties and bilateral relations between both countries, ahead of the the Andorran presidency of the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government. This is the first Spanish State Visit since the State Visit to Cuba in 2019, before the beginning of the Coronavirus crisis.
