Diplomatic Reception at the Royal Palace of Madrid 2023

Royal Guests from around the world joined the Greek Royal Family for the the Funeral of King Constantine II of Greece at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens at noon on January 16th, which will be followed by the Burial in the Royal Cemetery at Tatoi Palace. The former King Constantine II was an Olympic Gold Medalist before becoming the Sovereign for nine years and then being exiled for over 40 years, returning to Greece only a decade ago. King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain presided over the traditional Pascua Militar Ceremony at the Royal Palace of Madrid on January 6th. Pascua Militar marks the beginning of the military year and a Spanish National holiday; Epiphany.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, joined by the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia, are in Oviedo this week to preside over the 2022 Princess of Asturias Awards, to deliver a series of prizes to individuals, entities or companies from around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs. Established in 1980, the Princess of Asturias Foundation is a private non-profit institution, whose objectives are to contribute to the exaltation and promotion of how many scientific, cultural and humanistic values are universal heritage and consolidate their links to the Principality of Asturias. King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain are on a State Visit to the Federal Republic of Germany at the invitation of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, from October 16 to 19, to highlight and celebrate business and cultural ties, as well as visiting the Frankfurt Book Fair.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain were joined by Infanta Sofia for the Spanish National Day Celebrations on October 12th in Madrid. Traditionally referred to as the Día de la Hispanidad, the La Fiesta Nacional de España commemorates the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus for Spain on 12 October 1492. Foreign Royal Guests and Relatives joined the British Royal Family for the Committal Service for Queen Elizabeth II at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on September 19th, following the Funeral at Westminster Abbey and a Procession through London. The late Queen, who passed away at Balmoral Castle earlier this month, had been Lying-in-State first at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh and then at Westminster Hall in London for the past week.
