Danish State Visit to Sweden, 1973

King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden hosted his granddaughter, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and Prince Henrik on their State Visit to Sweden on this day in 1973 (50 years ago), which was the first outgoing State Visit of Queen Margrethe’s Reign, exactly a year after her accession and two months after the couple attended King Gustaf VI Adolf’s 90th Birthday Celebrations, as well as the last State Visit of King Gustaf VI Adolf’s Reign just a few months before he passed away.

In the morning, King Gustaf VI Adolf welcomed his granddaughter, Queen Margrethe, and grandson-in-law, Prince Henrik, at the Central Station in Stockholm before the Official Welcome Ceremony from the Royal Mews to the Royal Palace of Stockholm, with the rest of the Swedish Royal Family joining them for Lunch.

After the Official Welcome, King Gustaf VI Adolf hosted a State Banquet in honour of Queen Margrethe (wearing the Pearl Poiré Tiara) and Prince Henrik at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, at which he was joined by Crown Prince Carl Gustaf, Princess Christina (in Queen Sofia’s 9-Prong Tiara), and Prince Bertil.

Queen Margrethe (wearing Princess Dagmar’s Diamond Floral Tiara and her Antique Diamond Parure) and Prince Henrik were also pictured at another Banquet, like their Return Banquet for the Swedish Royal Family, at the end of the State Visit.
