Happy Birthday to Queen Letizia of Spain, who turns 45 today! The daughter of José Ortiz Álvarez and María de la Paloma Rocasolano Rodríguez in Asturias, she was educated in Spain, and became a successful journalist. In 1998, Letizia married Alonso Guerrero Pérez, divorcing the next year. In 2003, her engagement was announced to the Prince of Asturias, the first time the public were told the the couple were together, marrying in Madrid in 2004. They have two daughters: the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia. In 2014, after the abdication of King Juan Carlos, the couple succeeded to the throne as King Felipe IV and Queen Letizia of Spain. As Queen, she undertakes official duties throughout Spain and represents the Kingdom and its interests abroad. Queen Letizia was also named Special Ambassador for Nutrition by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. I wish HM a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!
