Happy Birthday to Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands! The daughter of Prince Bernhard and Queen Julianna, Princess Beatrix was born just before the start of WWII. During the war, she stayed with her mother in exile in Canada, while her father and grandmother, Queen Wilhelmina, headed the government in London. In 1948, a few years after returning,  Princess Beatrix became heiress to the Dutch Throne after the abdication of her grandmother. In 1966, she married German Claus van Amsberg, and while the marriage was initially controversial, it gained a lot of popular support later on. The couple had three children; Willem-Alexander, Prince Friso (who died in 2013 after a year-long coma), and Prince Constantijn. In 1980, Queen Juliana abdicated, and Princess Beatrix succeeded as Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. In 2002, she became a widow after Prince Claus died. In 2013, Queen Beatrix abdicated in favour of her son, Prince Willem-Alexander, giving up her title and becoming a Princess again. Princess Beatrix continues to participate in royal events, including State Banquets and Receptions.  I wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!
