Royal Air Force Centenary

Members of the British Royal Family attended a series of events marking the centenary of the Royal Air Force in London on July 10th, with a service in Westminster Abbey, followed by a parade in The Mall and spectacular flypast over Buckingham Palace. The Royal Air Force (RAF) – the world’s first independent air force – was founded on 1 April 1918, independent of the British Army and Royal Navy. Queen’s Young Leaders Awards 2018

The Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, hosted a ceremony and reception to present Awards to the 2018 Queen’s Young Leaders at Buckingham Palace on June 26th. The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme celebrates the achievements of inspiring young people from across the Commonwealth who are dedicated to driving change in their communities. The Queen was 26 years old when she became Head of the Commonwealth in 1952. This five year programme was launched in 2014 in honour of Her Majesty’s lifetime of service to the Commonwealth – a global network of 52 countries and 2.2 billion people, of whom 60 % are under 30 years old. In April, the Duke of Sussex was appointed a Commonwealth Youth Ambassador by the Queen.
