Happy Birthday to Crown Prince Haakon of Norway! The only son of King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, he is the younger brother of Princess Märtha Louise, and was born during the reign of his grandfather, King Olav V. Crown Prince Haakon’s godparents include King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and the Princess Royal.
Educated in Norway before getting a BA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics, he has served in the Royal Norwegian Navy and holds rank in all three branches of the Armed Forces.
In 2001, Crown Prince Haakon married Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby, a single mother. The couple have three children; Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, as well as Marius Borg Høiby.
Crown Prince Haakon undertakes official duties within Norway, frequently serving as Regent in recent years, and is also a member of the Young Global Leaders network and a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations,. We wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!
