Today marks the 45th Anniversary of the Death of Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, who passed away on this day in 1981! The last surviving grandchild of Queen Victoria, who married Queen Mary’s brother and became the Vicereine of both South Africa and Canada, Princess Alice lived through the reigns of six British monarchs, and possessed a spectacular Jewellery collection, from which we are revisiting her Diamond Palmette Tiara!

The Danish Royal Family joined King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark as they held the annual New Year’s Court (Nytårskur) and Banquet at Christian VII’s Palace, Amalienborg in Copenhagen on the evening of January 1st.

The Japanese Imperial Family joined Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako as they presided over the Ceremony of New Year’s Celebration at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on January 1st. This was the sixth New Year’s Reception of Emperor Naruhito’s Reign, with six separate Ceremonies.
