Tonight, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark will host her final New Year’s Court at Amalienborg Palace, ahead of her Abdication later this month following a 52-year Reign, so we are taking the opportunity to feature the spectacular New Year’s Gala held on this day in 1974, 50 years ago!
Ahead of the annual New Year’s Gala, Queen Margrethe gave a legendary interview for the documentary ‘Margrethe, Queen of Denmark‘, with the Queen wearing the spectacular Danish Emerald Parure and the Order of the Elephant.
Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik greeted the members of the Danish Government at a Reception, where the Queen gave Speech, ahead of the Gala Dinner in the Riddersalen, of which we got a rare glimpse inside.
Joining the Queen and Prince was Queen Ingrid of Denmark, who was wearing the Danish Ruby Parure.
As the Royal Family entered the Riddersalen, Queen Margrethe made a deep curtsey to those assembled, a symbolic way of honouring the Danish People.
Inside the Riddersalen, you could spot Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde (wearing the Queen Alexandrine’s Fringe Tiara), Princess Margaretha of Sweden and Denmark (in the Floral Tiara), Prince George and Princess Anne of Denmark (wearing a Fringe Tiara).
