Happy Birthday to Princess Elisabeth, Duchess in Bavaria, who rutns 80 today! The daughter of Count Carl Ludwig Douglas and Ottora Maria Haas-Heye, Countess Elisabeth Douglas-Stjernorp auf Mühlhausen und Langenstein was the sister of Rosita, Duchess of Marlborough, granddaughter of Count Archibald Douglas, Chief of the Swedish Army, and a great-granddaughter of Philip, Prince zu Eulenburg umd Hertefeld, growing up at Stjärnorp Castle in Östergötland. In 1967, Countess Elisabeth married Prince Max, Duke in Bavaria, the younger son of the Duke of Bavaria, Head of the House of Wittelsbach, and Countess Maria Draskovich von Trakostjan, who succeeded as ‘Duke in Bavaria’ from distant relatives, also inherited many great estates, including Schloss Tegernsee, Schloss Banz, Schloss Wildenwart and Wildbad Kreuth. The Duke and Duchess in Bavaria have five daughters, including Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein and Duchess Marie-Caroline of Württemberg. As Prince Max’s brother never married and has no descendents, he is the Heir to the Headship of the House of Wittelsbach and the Jacobite Pretender to the British Throne. Princess Elisabeth serves as the Grand Mistress of various Dynastic Orders of the House of Wittelsbach, and also undertakes a variety of duties as the highest-ranking Bavarian Royal Lady. We wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!
