Crown Prince Frederik and Mary Donaldson’s glittering Pre-Wedding Gala Performance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen on this day in 2004, on the eve of their wedding. This was the first event with foreign royal guests, as a previous Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace was only attended by members of the Royal Family.

Crown Prince Frederik wore White Tie with the Order of the Elephant and the Order of Dannebrog. The soon-to-be Crown Princess Mary wore a stunning Uffe Frank gown with the Danish Ruby Parure (for the second time) and the Sash and Star of the Order of the Elephant.

Sovereigns in attendance included Queen Margrethe (wearing the Pearl Poiré Tiara), King Constantine and Queen Anne Marie of Greece (in the Khedive of Egypt Tiara), Queen Sonja of Norway (wearing Queen Josefina’s Diamond Tiara), and Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Theresa of Luxembourg (in the Chaumet Pearl and Diamond Choker Tiara).

  1. It looks to me that the Countess of Wessex is wearing the Cartier tiara that the Duchess of Cambridge wore to her wedding….

  2. Well, I’ve read elsewhere that this is a “mystery tiara” which hasn’t been since that one occasion. The description is of a “button flower diamond” tiara. It has been speculated that it was on loan from a jeweler’s, but what is certain is that it is not part of the British royals’ collection.
