Queen Giovanna’s Pearl Tiara

When Doña Miriam de Ungría y López married Kardam, Prince of Tarnovo, the eldest son of Tsar Simeon and Queen Margarita, in 1996, she wore Queen Giovanna’s Pearl and Diamond Tiara, a splendid jewel given to Princess Giovanna of Savoy from her parents, King Victor Emanuel III and Queen Elena of Italy when she married Tsar Boris III of Bulgaria in 1930.

Diamond Bandeau Tiara

In 2004, Princess Miriam wore a a Bandeau Tiara of filigree flowers, which could be topped with 5 pearls, for a Gala Performance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen on the eve of the Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. Borrowed from Carrera y Carrera, where Princess Miriam was then a part of the creative team, the Tiara was presented a week later to the now Queen Letizia for her Wedding to Crown Prince Felipe. The Tiara has yet to be publicly worn since.

Diamond Flower Tiara

The following day, Princess Miriam wore a striking Diamond Flower Tiara, likely another borrowed jewel, for the Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark at Copenhagen Cathedral, which was paired with a Coral Suite.

Pearl and Diamond Tiara

When Princess Miriam attended the Wedding Gala of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and Countess Stephanie de Lannoy at the Grand Ducal Palace in 2012, she wore a spectacular Pearl and Diamond Tiara, which was made by Princess Miriam from several family heirlooms, including a pair of earrings and a bracelet inherited from her mother, a pair of earrings from her grandmother and a diamond fleur-de-lys brooch from the best man at her wedding.

The process was described said:

Miriam tells me that the idea of assembling this tiara arose after an appraisal for some clients where there were many old pieces of great sentimental and historical value, but that they hardly used, and it occurred to them to create a tiara with them for the wedding of one of their daughters. And of course, at the blacksmith’s house, a wooden knife. Miriam has made tiaras for clients on more than one occasion but never for herself. “What better occasion than the Luxembourg wedding to make one for myself?”

She made several compositions with some earrings from his grandmother and others from his mother, a brooch gift from his best man and a vintage bracelet. With these old pieces and several sketches, she got a wonderful tiara that we could all see in the photos of the gala dinner prior to the wedding of the princes of Luxembourg.

Flower Tiara

More recently, Princess Miriam wore a modern Flower Tiara for the Wedding Gala of Grand Duke George Mikhailovich of Russia and Princess Victoria Romanovna Romanoff at the Russian Museum of Ethnography in Saint Petersburg in 2021, which may be another design from her own brand: M DE U Jewellery.

Since becoming a Jordanian Princess last year, Princess Miriam had another opportunity to wear a Tiara, for the spectacular Banquet hosted by King Abdullah II and Queen Rania for Foreign Royal Guests at the Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman, to celebrate the Wedding of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa Al Hussein. Unfortunately, Princess Miriam’s arrival was not documented by the cameras and thus we cannot know if she wore one of her previous Tiaras or picked out a piece from the Jordanian Royal Family.
