King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 60th Birthday Gala

This week, Royal Guests and Relatives will gather from around Europe to celebrate the 80th Birthday of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, and after featuring his 40th and 50th Birthday Galas, we are looking back at when Royal Guests and Relatives gathered in Stockholm to celebrate the King’s 60th Birthday in 2006, 20 years ago!

The Swedish Royal Family was joined by the Royal Guests for a Changing of the Guard Ceremony at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, a Te Deum Service at the Palace Chapel, a balcony appearance, and, following a carriage ride through the streets of Stockholm, a Lunch at Stockholm City Hall.

Finally, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia held a magnificent Banquet at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, attended by Royal Guests and Relatives from around Europe.

The previous day, there was a Gala Dinner hosted by the King and Queen at Drottningholm Palace, which was attended by several of the Royal Guests who had arrived on the eve of the Birthday, led by King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway with Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit as well as Princess Astrid
