In 2001, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway acquired this delicate Diamond Daisy Bandeau Tiara, of Edwardian design made around 1910, as a wedding gift for Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby ahead of her Wedding to Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.

The Tiara was likely acquired from Garrard, and seems to have been previously worn by the actress Cate Blanchett when she played Lady Gertrude Chiltern in the 1999 film An Ideal Husband.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit debuted the Diamond Daisy Bandeau Tiara for her Wedding to Crown Prince Haakon of Norway at Oslo Cathedral in 2001, making a striking pairing with her Edwardian-inspired gown.

In the years after her marriage, Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore the Diamond Daisy Bandeau on numerous occasions, including the Wedding of Princess Märtha Louise of Norway in 2002, the Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark in 2004, the Swedish State Banquet in 2005, the Spanish State Visit in 2006, and the Wedding of Prince Joachim and Marie Cavallier in 2008, as well as for numerous Official Portraits and State Banquets in Norway.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit has worn the Diamond Daisy Bandeau Tiara at several foreign royal events, including on the Norwegian Official Visit to Britain in 2005, King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Diamond Jubilee Reception in 2006, the Wedding Ball of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco in 2011, Queen Margrethe’s Ruby Jubilee Banquet in 2012, the Wedding Gala of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and Countess Stephanie de Lannoy in 2012, and Queen Beatrix’s Abdication Dinner on the eve of the Inauguration of King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit continued to wear the Diamond Daisy Bandeau Tiara for numerous State Visits and Gala Dinners as well as the Wedding of Prince Carl Philip of Sweden in 2015, Official Portraits in 2016 and Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th Birthday Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace in 2018.

In recent years, Crown Princess Mette-Marit has worn the Diamond Daisy Bandeau Tiara for the Dutch State Visit to Norway in 2021, at Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s 18th Birthday Banquet and for Stortingsmiddagen in 2022. There is no doubt we will continue to see the splendid jewel worn for years to come!

In 2023, Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore the Diamond Daisy Bandeau Tiara for Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th Birthday Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace.
