Wedding of Crown Prince Kardam of Bulgaria

Royal Guests and Relatives celebrated the Wedding of Prince Kardam of Bulgaria, Prince of Turnovo and Doña Miriam de Ungría y López at the Orthodox Cathedral of St Andrew and St Demetrius in Madrid on this day in 1996!

Prince Kardam of Bulgaria, Prince of Turnovo, the eldest son of Tsar Simeon II and Tsaritsa Margarita of Bulgaria, married Doña Miriam de Ungría y López at the Orthodox Cathedral of St Andrew and St Demetrius in Madrid.

Crown Princess Miriam wore Queen Giovanna’s Pearl Tiara.

Royal Guests and Relatives in attendance included Queen Sofia of Spain, the Prince of Asturias, Infanta Elena, Don Jaime de Marichalar, and Infanta Cristina, Infanta Pilar, Duchess of Badajoz, and Infanta Margarita of Spain, Princess Alexia and Prince Nikolaos of Greece, the Crown Prince of Morocco, Archduke Karl and Archduke George von Habsburg, Princess Tatiana of Liechtenstein, and Princess Gloria von Thurn and Taxis among a host of Royal and Noble figures from around Europe.

The couple had two sons, Prince Boris and Prince Beltrán, before the couple were severely injured after a car crash in Madrid in 2008, and while Crown Princess Miriam recovered, the Prince suffered cranial fractures, lost both hands, and went into a coma, passing away in hospital in Madrid in 2015.  In 2022, Princess Miriam married Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad of Jordan, a cousin of King Abdullah II.
