Ahead of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s State Visit to France, we thought it would be a good idea to cover when the British Royal Family hosted French President Vincent Auriol and Madame Auriol on their State Visit to the United Kingdom on this day in 1950, during the French State Visit to Britain, reaffirming the Anglo-French alliance after the Second World War. This was the first State Visit to Britain following the Second World War, with the last Alsing having been a French State Visit in 1939.

Duke and Duchess of York in Los Angeles, 1988

The Duke and Duchess of York were on an eight-day ‘Buy British’ visit to the City of Los Angeles on this day in 1988, which came in the midst of harsh media criticism over the Duchess’s fashion and antics while pregnant with Princess Beatrice, described as “brash, vulgar, excessive, weak-humored exhibition by two royals”. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh made an Official Visit to California in 1983.

Prince and Princess of Wales at Welsh Guards’ St David’s Day Parade

The Prince of Wales, Colonel of the Welsh Guards, was accompanied by the Princess of Wales, on a visit to the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards to attend the St David’s Day Parade at the Combermere Barracks in Windsor on March 1st. This was the first time the Prince and Princess have visited the Welsh Guards since the Prince become colonel of the Regiment. Continue reading →

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway will finally begin their Official Visit to Britain today, which was initially delayed after the death of Queen Elizabeth II last September. The Norwegian and British Royal Family have been very close for over a century, with a series of State Visits, personal meetings and holidays and also attendance at countless family celebrations and in times of grief, so we are featuring the Norwegian Royal Visits to Britain today!

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary in India

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark are on an Official Visit to India from February 26th to March 1st, visiting the cities of Agra, Delhi, and Chennai for a business promotion of 38 Danish companies with a green business focus on water and energy in India. Last year, the Danish Royal Family hosted an Official Dinner for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Knights’ Hall of Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg.

Queen in California, 1983

President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan hosted the the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh on their Official Visit to California on this day in 1983, following visits to Bermuda, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and Mexico and ahead go a visit to Canada on the month-long Tour. This was the fourth of the Queen’s six State Visits to the United States, with visits in 1951, 1957, 1976, 1991, and 2007.
