Dutch State Visit to Slovakia 

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands are on a State Visit to Slovakia from March 7th to 9th, at the invitation of President Zuzana Čaputová. Important common themes of the State Visit include the rule of law, education, media freedom, emancipation and support for Ukraine.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were officially welcomed by President Čaputová at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava, where following the President’s Reception, the King and Queen laid a wreath at the ‘Gate of Freedom’ in Devín.

Later in the afternoon, President Čaputová and Mayor Matúš Vallo of Bratislava took King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima on a walk through the historic city centre of Bratislava, which ended at the monument to investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová, who were murdered in 2018. Afterwards, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima gave a press conference in the Primaciálny Palace with Slovak media, government representatives and the police and judiciary about the importance and preservation of press freedom and the protection of journalists.

In the evening, President Čaputová hosted a State Banquet in honour of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at the Reduta Jazz Club in Bratislava. Both the King and President gave speeches.

Queen Maxima wore a repeated Jan Taminiau gown with the Dutch Emerald Tiara and Parure.
