The Wedding of Prince Franz Joseph II of Liechtenstein, son of Prince Aloys of Liechtenstein and Archduchess Elisabeth Amalie of Austria, and Countess Georgina ‘Gina’ von Wilczek, daughter of the Count of Wilczek and Countess Norbertine Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau, at the St. Florin Cathedral in Vaduz on this day in 1943, which was the first time that a Wedding of the reigning Prince had married in Liechtenstein, as opposed to their Palaces in Vienna due to the ongoing Second World War. The new Princess Gina wore her Diamond Earrings, and in the following weeks, the newlyweds visited all eleven communes of Liechtenstein.
The couple had five children: including the current Prince Hans-Adam II, with their reign seeing a period of great change in the Principality and the Princely Family’s fortunes, during which the Princess was at the forefront of promoting Liechtenstein, and remained happily married until 1989, passing away within a month of each other.
