Happy Birthday to the Duchess of Cornwall! The eldest child of Major Bruce Shand and the Hon. Rosalind Cubitt, she was raised in East Sussex and South Kensington, and was educated in England, Switzerland and France. In 1973, Camilla married Andrew Parker Bowles, with whom she had two children, before divorcing in 1995. In 2005, after a long relationship, she married the Prince of Wales at Windsor. After her marriage, she adopted her husband’s highest ranking subsidiary title, since the title of ‘Princess of Wales’ was too strongly associated with her predecessor. The Duchess of Cornwall undertakes duties on behalf of the Queen, and assists the Prince of Wales on his official duties. She has also raised awareness in areas including rape, sexual abuse, literacy, and poverty, as well as in osteoporosis. The Duchess is one of my personal favourite members of the Royal Family and I wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!

UPDATE: The Duchess of Cornwall became the Queen of the United Kingdom when the Prince of Wales ascended to the British Throne as King Charles III upon the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

  1. I share your fondness for the Duchess. One of my absolute favorites! I am also a huge fan of her husband’s and all the work he does (quite tirelessly and with no gratitude for the most part.)

  2. Agreed! I find that the Duchess has the most wonderful disposition. She’s cheerful and friendly and tackles her duties with enthusiasm. I’ve also noticed how happy Prince Charles always appears when he’s in her company. I wish her joy!
