The British Royal Family joined the King and Queen to attend the Service for the Most Noble Order of the Garter at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on June 19th, following Trooping the Colour and the Coronation. The oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain, the Most Noble Order of the Garter was founded by King Edward III in 1348, and is limited to the Sovereign, the Prince of Wales and 24 members as well as members of the Royal Family, known as Royal Knights and Ladies, and Foreign Sovereigns, known as Stranger (or Extra) Knights and Ladies. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Princess Alexandra, and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent joined King Charles and Queen Camilla for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show at the Royal Hospital Chelsea on May 20th, while the Princess of Wales attended the first ever Children’s Picnic. Royalty and Heads of State from around the world have gathered to join the British Royal Family for the spectacular Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey on May 6th, which is the first British Coronation in 70 years. The Ceremony follows the King’s Accession Council in September as well as a Reception for Royalty and Heads of State at Buckingham Palace.
On the eve of the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the British Royal Family hosted a Reception at Buckingham Palace for Foreign Royalty and Heads of State who are in London to attend the Coronation. Earlier, the Royal Family hosted a Reception for Realm Governors General and Commonwealth Prime Minsters.
Happy Birthday to Princess Alexandra of Kent, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy, who turns 86 today! The only daughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, Princess Alexandra is the Queen’s only paternal female cousin and has worn some spectacular jewels over the past seven decades as a working royal, among which is her Sapphire Necklace!
When the Queen passed away last month, it brought to an end what was probably the most exclusive Honour of the United Kingdom, a piece of splendid insignia given to select female members of the Royal Family at the sole discretion of the Queen.
