When the Queen passed away last month, it brought to an end what was probably the most exclusive Honour of the United Kingdom, a piece of splendid insignia given to select female members of the Royal Family at the sole discretion of the Queen. Foreign Royal Guests and Relatives joined the British Royal Family for the Committal Service for Queen Elizabeth II at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on September 19th, following the Funeral at Westminster Abbey and a Procession through London. Ahead of the Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey tomorrow, the British Royal Family hosted a Reception for visiting Heads of State and Representatives at Buckingham Palace, which is stated to be one of the largest gatherings of Heads of State in History. The late Queen, who passed away at Balmoral Castle earlier this month, has been Lying-in-State first at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh and then at Westminster Hall in London for the past week, with the Funeral at Westminster Abbey tomorrow to be followed by a Procession to Marble Arch and a Committal Service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The Royal Family hosted a Lunch and Reception at Buckingham Palace for the Realm Governors General of Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu, who are the Official Representatives of King Charles III in those Commonwealth Realms, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, whose coffin is currently Lying-in-State at the Palace of Westminster.
The Royal Family will follow the Coffin of Queen Elizabeth II in a procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, for a Lying-in-State until the Funeral on September 20th. The Coffin arrived at Buckingham Palace, following a Lying-in-State at St Giles’ Cathedral, following a Procession from Balmoral Castle, where she passed away last week.
The British Royal Family attended the second day of races at the Ascot Racecourse on June 15th. Royal Ascot is a permanent fixture on the British Royal Family’s June calendar. The Queen has attended all five days of the horse-racing event since 1953, though she was only present for one day in 2021 and so far not present this year. The British Royal Family attended the Service for the Most Noble Order of the Garter at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on June 17th. The oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain, the Most Noble Order of the Garter was founded by King Edward III in 1348, and is limited to the Sovereign, the Prince of Wales and 24 members as well as members of the Royal Family, known as Royal Knights and Ladies, and Foreign Sovereigns, known as Stranger (or Extra) Knights and Ladies. The Queen pulled out of today’s Platinum Jubilee Service at St Paul’s Cathedral due to ‘discomfort’ caused during yesterday’s Trooping the Colour Ceremony, and was instead represented by the Prince of Wales, supported by members of the ended Royal Family. Continue reading
Members of the British Royal family celebrated the Queen’s Official Birthday by attending the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony in London on June 2nd, launching the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend Festivities. They rode on horses and in carriages to inspect the guards at Horse Guards Parade and then watched a RAF Flypast from the Balcony of Buckingham Palace. The Duke of Cambridge presided over the Colonel’s Review of the Irish Guards last week.
The Duchess of Cambridge and the Earl and Countess of Wessex hosted the second annual Garden Party of 2022 at Buckingham Palace on May 18th. There are usually four annual Garden Parties hosted by the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyrood House for around 30,000 guests yearly, as well as a few special others, though the Queen has announced in advance that she will not be attending any of the Garden Parties this year.
Happy Birthday to Princess Alexandra of Kent, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy, who turns 85 today! The only daughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, Princess Alexandra is the Queen’s only paternal female cousin and has worn some spectacular jewels over the past seven decades as a working royal, among which are her spectacular Pearl and Diamond Necklace! Happy Birthday to Flora Vesterberg née Ogilvy, who turns 27 today! The daughter of James and Julia Ogilvy and granddaughter of Princess Alexandra of Kent, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy, Flora received a Masters Degree in History of Art from The Courtauld Institute of Art, with her area of expertise in contemporary and modern art. She is an Ambassador of the Victoria and Albert Museum and a Contributor to Vogue Magazine.
