In the early 1960s, the 16-year old Princess Anne Marie wore Queen Victoria of Sweden’s Diamond Stars in her hair during the Greek Monarchy Centenary Celebrations in 1963, soon after the announcement of her Engagement to Crown Prince Constantine of Greece. The Diamond Stars were worn for several Gala Dinners and also a series of formal portraits by Rigmor Mydtskov at Fredensborg Palace in the Summer of 1964.
On her 18th Birthday, Princess Anne Marie received the Antique Corsage Tiara from Queen Ingrid which was debuted for her Farewell Dinner and a Gala in Copenhagen days after her Birthday in the lead-up to spectacular Wedding celebrations in Athens.
The most important Wedding Gifts given to Queen Anne Marie came from her mother-in-law, Queen Frederica of Greece, highlighted by the historic Greek Emerald Parure and the Greek Ruby Parure, both heirlooms from Queen Olga of Greece.
Princess Anne Marie first wore the Greek Emerald Parure for her First Official Portraits taken in the days leading up to the Wedding
Princess Anne Marie debuted the Ruby Parure for a Pre-Wedding Dinner and Reception offered by the Greek Government at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens.
The Greek Emerald Parure was also worn for the spectacular Wedding Ball at the Royal Palace of Athens, which was one of the century’s biggest gathering of Royalty.
The next day, Princess Anne-Marie was the first of Queen Ingrid’s daughters to wear the Khedive of Egypt Tiara for her Wedding of King Constantine II of Greece.
As the young Greek Queen, Queen Anne Marie wore the Antique Corsage Tiara for a Tunisian State Visit in 1965 as well as for an Audience with Pope Paul VI at the Vatican in addition to the Wedding Ball of Prince Karl of Hesse and Countess Yvonne Szapary von Muraszombath Széchysziget und Szapár in 1966.
Queen Anne Marie frequently wore the Emerald Tiara and Parure for portraits.
Queen Anne Marie wore the Greek Ruby Parure for the Wedding Ball of Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands in 1966, and the Wedding Ball of Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein and Countess Marie Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau in 1967 as well as at the Wedding of her sister, Princess Benedikte of Denmark, and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.
The Emerald Parure was also taken into exile when the Greek Royal Family fled Greece in 1967, being worn a few weeks later at her sister, Princess Benedikte’s Wedding Gala and later for King Frederik IX’s 70th Birthday in 1969 and the Celebrations marking the 2500th Anniversary of the Persian Empire in Persepolis in Iran in 1971.
Queen Anne-Marie of Greece borrowed the Khedive of Egypt Tiara for her grandfather, King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden’s 90th Birthday in 1972.
Queen Ingrid loaned Queen Sofia’s Pearl and Star Tiara to Queen Anne Marie for a Gala Evening in the 1980s.
The Greek Emerald Parure has remained a favourite of Queen Anne Marie for the most formal occasions throughout her exile, being worn for Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik’s 25th Wedding Anniversary in 1992, Princess Benedikte’s 25th Wedding Anniversary in 1993, King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 50th Birthday in 1995, Prince Joachim’s Wedding Ball in 1995, Queen Margrethe’s Silver Jubilee in 1997, and the Wedding of Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Count Jefferson von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth in 1998.
Queen Anne Marie wore Queen Olga’s Ruby Parure for Crown Prince Haakon’s 18th Birthday in 1991, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik’s 25th Wedding Anniversary in 1992, King Harland and Queen Sonja’s Silver Anniversary in 1993, the Wedding of Prince Joachim of Denmark and Alexandra Manley in 1995, and Queen Margrethe’s Silver Jubilee in 1997.
Queen Anne Marie wore the Antique Corsage Tiara for Prince Henrik’s 60th Birthday Banquet in 1994 as well as for King Harald and Queen Sonja’s 60th Birthday Banquet in 1997.
After Queen Ingrid’s death, the Khedive of Egypt Tiara was inherited by her youngest daughter, Queen Anne-Marie, and made a debut at the Wedding of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway in 2001.
The Emerald Parure was worn by Queen Anne-Marie for Queen Margrethe’s 60th Birthday in 2000, the Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark in 2004, and the Norwegian Independence Centenary Gala in Copenhagen in 2005.
Queen Anne Marie also wore Queen Olga’s Ruby Parure for Queen Margrethe’s 60th Birthday in 2000, Queen Margrethe’s Banquet at the Natural History Museum in London in 2000, Crown Prince Frederik’s Pre-Wedding Banquet in 2004, and King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 60th Birthday in 2006.
Queen Anne Marie wore the Khedive of Egypt Tiara for the Wedding Gala of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen in 2004, as well as for the Wedding of Prince Joachim of Denmark in 2008.
Most recently, the Antique Corsage Tiara was worn by Queen Anne Marie for Prince Henrik’s 75th Birthday Banquet in 2009.
Queen Anne Marie wore the Greek Ruby Parure for the Queen Margrethe’s 70th Birthday Gala and also the Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden in 2010.
Queen Anne Marie wore the Khedive of Egypt Tiara for Queen Margrethe’s 70th Birthday Gala, Queen Margrethe’s Ruby Jubilee Gala and the Wedding Gala of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and Countess Stephanie de Lannoy in 2012, as well as for Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th Birthday Gala in 2018.
The Emerald Parure was worn by Queen Anne-Marie for Queen Margrethe’s 70th Birthday Gala in 2010, Queen Margrethe’s Ruby Jubilee Banquet in 2012, and Queen Margrethe’s 75th Birthday Banquet in 2015.
Queen Anne Marie wore Queen Olga’s Ruby Parure for King Harald and Queen Sonja’s 80th Birthday Banquet in 2017.
The most recent appearance of the Greek Ruby Parure came in 2022, for Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee Gala in Copenhagen, where we saw the Rubies in person.
The following day, we were outside Christiansborg Palace as Queen Anne Marie arrived for Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee Banquet, seeing the spectacular Emeralds glow in the light of the setting sun like flashlights.
Since being widowed in 2023, Queen Anne Marie has only worn the Khedive of Egypt Tiara, which was paired with Queen Alexandrine’s Diamond Sautoir Necklace and Queen Ingrid’s Diamond Earrings for King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Golden Jubilee Banquet in Stockholm in 2023.
The following month, Queen Anne Marie wore the Khedive of Egypt Tiara again, this time with her her Sapphire Necklace, Queen Ingrid’s Diamond Earrings and her Diamond Swan Brooch, this time for Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th Birthday Banquet in Copenhagen.
