Happy Birthday to the Margravine of Baden, who celebrates her 60th Birthday today! Among many spectacular heirlooms, the Margravine has often worn this magnificent Köchert Diamond Necklace, which was a Wedding Gift from the Duke and Duchess of Cumberland to their daughter, Princess Marie Louise of Hanover, upon her marriage to Prince Max of Baden!

When Princess Marie Louise of Hanover married Prince Max of Baden in 1904, the bride received several spectacular wedding gifts, among them was this magnificent Köchert Diamond Necklace from her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cumberland, which was described in the contemporary press:
Among the gifts, the present from the Duke and Duchess of Cumberland, the bride’s parents, is particularly noteworthy. It is a diamond necklace formed from English-style mesh coils and a matching brooch depicting a large bow
The Köchert Archives have graciously shared the original documentation of the commission of this Diamond Necklace by the Duke of Cumberland in May 1900, which also has a rough sketch of the design.
Princess Marie Louise seems to have notably worn the Köchert Diamond Necklace for the Wedding of her sister, Princess Alexandra of Hanover, to Grand Duke Frederick Francis IV of Mecklenburg-Schwerin at Schloss Cumberland in Gmunden in 1904, and it then passed down the family line.
In 2019, the then Hereditary Princess of Baden first wore the Köchert Diamond Necklace for the 71st Bambi Awards at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.
The Köchert Diamond Necklace was worn by the now Margravine of Baden with the Baden Sunburst Tiara for the Wedding Ball of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria at Schloss Schleißheim in 2023.
A few months later, the Margravine of Baden wore the Köchert Diamond Necklace for the Wedding of Duchess Amelie of Württemberg and Baron Franz-Ferdinand von Feilitzsch at Schloss Altshausen.
More recently, the Köchert Diamond Necklace was again paired with the Baden Sunburst Tiara for an official portrait that was on the programme of a Gala in New York a few months ago, and there is no doubt this magnificent heirloom will be worn for years to come!
