Hereditary Princess Sophie’s Sapphire Suite

Happy Birthday to Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein, who turns 56 today! The Bavarian Duchess married to the Heir and Regent of the small Alpine Principality, the Hereditary Princess has worn some spectacular Heirloom Jewels, which includes this striking Sapphire and Diamond Suite!

A striking antique Sapphire and Diamond Necklace featuring a large central sapphire and ornate diamond pendants, along with a pair of sapphire and diamond earrings, the provenance of this suite is unknown but was likely a wedding gift to the then Duchess Sophie in Bavaria from her parents, the Duke in Bavaria and Princess Elisabeth, Duchess in Bavaria.

In 1993, Duchess Sophie in Bavaria wore the Bavarian Pearl and Diamond Floral Tiara with her Sapphire and Diamond Suite for the spectacular Ball hosted by her grandfather, the Duke of Bavaria, at the Schloss Nymphenburg in Munich, a week before their Wedding in Vaduz.

A week later, Duchess Sophie wore the Sapphire and Diamond Suite again, for the Ball held at Schloss Vaduz on the eve of the Wedding in Vaduz.

Hereditary Princess Sophie also wore her Sapphire Suite for the Wedding Gala of her sister, Duchess Maria Anna in Bayern, at Schloss Nymphenburg in 2007.

In 2013, Hereditary Princess Sophie wore the Sapphire and Diamond Earrings for the Gala and Pageant held following the Inauguration of King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, and wore a shorter form for another event.

Earlier this year, Hereditary Princess Sophie wore her Sapphire Suite for the Wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Raja Al-Saif at the Zahran Palace in Amman, which shows that we will continue to see this splendid heirloom suite worn for years to come!
