Comprising of a beautiful rose on a short stem, surrounded by leaves and rosebuds, all encrusted with diamonds, the Brooch is composed of brilliant cut diamonds set in silver and gold, from the later half of the 19th century. The Brooch is suspected to be a wedding gift from Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, the Dowager Duchess Duchess of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach to her granddaughter, Princess Louise of Prussia, when she married Grand Duke Frederick I of Baden in 1856, who also left her granddaughter the Pink Topaz Parure.

Grand Duchess Louise most notably wore the Diamond Rose Brooch along with the Baden Palmette Tiara for a series of portraits with her daughter, Queen Victoria of Sweden, taken during her Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrations in 1906.

After Grand Duchess Louise’s passing in 1923, several of her jewels were inherited by her daughter, Queen Victoria of Sweden, who in 1930 left the Baden Palmette Tiara and Antique Corsage to her granddaughter, the future Queen Ingrid of Denmark, but the Pink Topaz Parure and the Diamond Rose Brooch remained in Sweden and was put into the Bernadotte Jewellery Foundation created by Queen Victoria.

It took several decades for the Diamond Rose Brooch to appear in public again, when it was worn by Queen Silvia in her hair in the 1980s, appearing again during a Dinner at the Royal Palace of Stockholm in the mid-2000s.

The Baden Diamond Rose Brooch was become a signature jewel of Princess Madeleine in recent years, being worn in her hair for one of the Nobel Prize Dinners in the late 2000s.

A few years later, Princess Madeleine wore the Baden Diamond Rose Brooch in the back of her hair for the Gala held on the eve of the Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria in 2010.

More recently, the Baden Diamond Rose Brooch appeared on Princess Madeleine at a Gala Performance of the Swedish Royal Opera at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre, to launch King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations. There is no doubt we will continue to see this spectacular heirloom for years to come!
