Today marks the 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Princess Theodora, Margravine of Baden, who was born on this day in 1906! Earlier this month, the Margravine of Baden wore the heirloom Baden Sapphire Necklace and Earrings in New York City, which were first seen on her husband’s grandmother, Princess Theodora!

The exact origin of this Sapphire and Diamond Parure is unknown, but it may be among the heirlooms of Grand Duchess Louise or could have been among the jewels of Princess Marie Louise of Hanover.
Princess Theodora of Greece, Margravine of Baden notably wore the Sapphire and Diamond Necklace and Earrings with the Baden Sunburst Tiara for the 80th Birthday celebrations of King Gustav V of Sweden in 1938.
The Baden Sapphire Parure was frequently worn by Archduchess Valerie along with the Baden Sunburst Tiara for several grand events in the 1960s and 70s, among them her Wedding Ball in 1966.
The current Margravine of Baden first wore the Sapphire Parure at a State Banquet in honour of King Charles and Queen Camilla at Schloss Bellevue in Berlin.
Most recently, the Baden Sapphire Parure was worn by the Margravine of Baden at the annual New York benefit for The Versailles/Giverny Foundation earlier this month. There is no doubt we will continue to see these spectacular jewels worn for years to come!
