Enthronement of Prince Albert II of Monaco, 2005

Royal Guests from Sweden, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Britain, Denmark and Italy joined the Princely Family to celebrate the Enthronement of Prince Albert II of Monaco in Monte Carlo on this day in 2005, who had succeeded in April of that year, after the 56-year reign of his father, Prince Rainier III.

On November 18th, Prince Albert was formally invested in a ceremony as the ruler of Monaco at the Prince’s Palace, during which he received the Homage of the High Corps of the State to the Prince Sovereign and the Grand Master Collars of the Order of Saint Charles and the Order of Grimaldi. Princess Caroline was made Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit and Princess Stéphanie was made Grand Cross of the Order of Grimaldi.

In the evening, Prince Albert hosted a Dinner in the Grill of Hotel de Paris with some of the Foreign Royal Guests.

The following day, coinciding with Monaco’s National Day ceremonies, the Princely Family were joined by the Royal Guests for a Mass at the Monaco Cathedral, before they watched a Military Parade from the Balcony of the Prince’s Palace.

In the evening, the Royal Guests joined the Princely Family for the National Day Gala of Rossini’s Opera ‘Le Voyage a Reims’ at the Opera Garnier in Monte Carlo, with the festivities ending with a firework display viewed from the Monte Carlo Casino.

Events started in July, when Prince Albert was enthroned as ruler of Monaco, with a Mass at Monaco Cathedral, fireworks over the Monte Carlo Harbour, and meeting Monegasque populations in a Picnic.
