Princess Grace’s Diamond Swag Tiara

The 12th of November will mark the 90th Anniversary of the Birth of Princess Grace of Monaco, the glamorous American Actress who became the Princess Consort of the small Mediterranean Principality, so we are featuring her Top 9 jewels, continuing with her Diamond Swag Tiara today.

Featuring a series of exaggerated diamond swags, set with large pear-shaped diamonds, the provenance of Princess Grace’s Diamond Swag Tiara is unknown, though the design is similar to pieces from Cartier or Van Cleef & Arpels from the period, and was probably originally a necklace. Princess Grace first wore the Tiara for a series of portraits in 1956, soon after her marriage, with her Van Cleef & Arpels Necklace.

Its also unknown if the piece was personally owned by Princess Grace, but unlike many of the jewels she loaned from jewellers, she wore her Diamond Swag Tiara a few years later, at the the Bal des Petits Lits Blancs in 1965, paired with her Van Cleef & Arpels Earrings. Since the Tiara hasn’t been publicly worn or displayed in the years since, its quite likely that it no longer exists.
