The wedding of the Prince Maximilian of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg to Ms Franziska Balzer took place at the Stadtkirche in Bad Laasphe on August 6th. The reception took place at Schloss Wittgenstein. Many royals attended the ceremony. Continue reading

There is usually a significant royal attendance at the Olympics, at London 2012, most of the monarchs brought their children and grandchildren, but for Rio 2016, only a few countries are represented by their royal families. They are sent to support and cheer on their countries teams. The Royals attended the Opening Ceremony on August 5, and then attended a reception for heads of state and government representatives. Princess Märtha Louise of Norway to Divorce
Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, daughter of King Harald V, announced her intention to divorce her husband of 14 years, Ari Behn, on August 5th. The soon to be former couple have three daughters. Princess Märtha Louise lost the style of HRH upon her marriage, but remains 4th in line to the Norwegian throne. Princess Märtha Louise and Ari Behn were pictured together as recently as April, when they attended the King of Sweden’s Birthday banquet. Continue reading
Queen Mother’s Tiaras
Happy Birthday to HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who would have turned 116 today. My favourite royal was born on August 4, 1900, the daughter of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore, she married Prince Albert, Duke of York in 1923. The Duke and Duchess of York had two daughters before unexpectedly becoming Sovereigns of Britain, due to his brother’s abdication. Leading the country during WWII had a serious strain on the Kings health, leading to his death in 1952. As the mother of the new Queen, the Queen Mother, had no defined role. During her widowhood, she became known for her sense of duty, and an ability to enjoy life. She died at the ripe old age of 101 in March, 2002. Throughout her life, Elizabeth wore glittering tiaras. Some were royal heirlooms, while others were made for her. This is a tribute to the Jewel Vault of a beloved monarch. Continue reading

HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark opened the LEGO-classes at the Institute for Child Development in Rio de Janeiro on August 3rd. This is at the start of a long stay in Rio for the Danish Royals for the Olympics. Crown Prince Fredrick is the head of the Danish Olympic Delegation. Continue reading

Queen Anne of Romania
HM Queen Anne of Romania died on the 1st of August 2016, at the Hospital in Morges, Switzerland, at 1.45 p.m. Queen Anne was the consort of King Micheal of Romania, and spent the majority of her life in exile in Switzerland. She spent a quiet and secluded life, despite her impressive title, entered Romania for the first time when she was 70, and didn’t even speak the language of her husband’s kingdom. Continue reading

Hereditary Prince Franz Albrecht zu Oettingen-Spielberg married Baroness Cleopatra von Adelsheim von Ernest on July 9th in a religious service in Oettingen, Bavaria. The bride and groom, who come from illustrious families, were married in civil ceremony at the bride’s family estate in Adelsheim, Germany, earlier this summer. The religious wedding and reception were attended by celebrities and members of German Royal Houses. Continue reading

The Documentary; Secrets of the Royal Kitchen, features Former Royal Chef Graham Newbould who worked a a chef to the Queen and the Prince & Princess of Wales in the 1980s. The programme includes recipes of the Queen’s “comfort food”, as well as the cuisine served on the Royal Yacht Britannia and at Balmoral Castle. Continue reading
Linley Beechwood Tiara
This unusual tiara was designed by Tim Gosling for David Linley Furniture in the 1990s. It features a base of willow leaves underneath a top of carved birch leaves. The piece was commissioned by David, Viscount Linley, son of Princess Margret, in the 1990s for his wife Serena, Viscountess Linley. Continue reading
Sandringham Flower Show 2016
TRH’s the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall visited the 135th Sandringham Flower Show on July 27th. The royal couple looked at papier mache balloon models of themselves, as well as the exhibitors tents. The Prince has been Patron of The Sandringham Estate Cottage Horticultural Society since 2002. Duchess of Kent at the Ryedale Show
HRH The Duchess of Kent attended the 150th Ryedale Show at Welburn Park, North Yorkshire on July 26th. This was the first engagement for the elderly Duchess, married to a first cousin of the Queen, in many years. She retired from public duties in 2002 due to illness. Continue reading

The Queen attended a preview of the ‘Fashioning a Reign‘ Exhibition in Buckingham Palace on July 25th. Fashioning A Reign: 90 Years Of Style is a display in honour of the Queen’s 90th Birthday. The Exhibition includes 80 of the Queen’s iconic outfits, and 62 hats. It runs at Buckingham Palace until the 2nd of October. Continue reading
Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Portsmouth
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge watched America’s Cup racing during an engagement at the 1851 Trust in Portsmouth on July 24th. The couple visited the BAR (Ben Ainslie Racing) headquarters and presented the America’s Cup event winner trophy. The charity is aimed at getting children involved in maritime sports. The Duchess opened a new Tech Deck education centre in Portsmouth in May. Continue reading

Prince George, son of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, turned 3 on July 22nd. He was born in 2013, and has a younger sister, Princess Charlotte.
