Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and sister to Prince George, turns one today. The little Princess, who is fourth in line to the throne, has been photographed on a number of occasions during her first year, and is well on her way to becoming as much of an icon as her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
After short wait, compared to the wait for her brother, Princess Charlotte’s birth was announced by Kensington Palace on Twitter: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8:34 am.” This was great news for the royal watchers who had been waiting the birth on Twitter for three weeks, using the hashtag: #GreatKateWait. Many people also spent hours watching the live footage of the door to the Lindo wing.
Her name was announced a few days later, also via Twitter; “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have decided to name their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.” “The Baby will be known as Her Royal highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.”
Her first appearance was in the steps of the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, in London. The Princess was held by her mother, who looked remarkably relaxed, despite having given birth only a few hours ago. Throughout her first year, there have been a number of photos released of the Princess, notably at her Christening and the family Christmas card.
In the picture sequence above, Princess Charlotte is shown throughout different stages of the past year. The pictures are: (L-R): Picture with Prince George, 6 Months, Christmas card, Ski Holiday, Portrait with the Queen, and 1st Birthday. One of my favourite pictures is the family portrait released at the Christening in June, 2015.
In honour of her first birthday, Kensington Palace released four photos of Princess Charlotte, taken by her mother, the Duchess, at Amner Hall, the Cambridge residence in Norfolk.
I wish HRH a very happy birthday, may she have many more! It will be interesting to watch the Cambridge children grow up in the next year. The Duke and Duchess guard their privacy fiercely, but they release a few pictures throughout the year.
