Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Wedding Reception, 2011

Happy 10th Anniversary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who got married on this day in 2011, in what was termed the ‘Wedding of the Century’! Koningsdag 2021

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands were joined by the Princess of Orange (wearing Queen Juliana’s Aquamarine Earrings), Princess Alexia, and Princess Ariane for the annual Koningsdag (King’s Day) celebrations at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven on April 27th, participating in a special online and TV broadcast through the theme of Making Knowledge due to the ongoing Pandemic. Koningsdag, a Bank Holiday in the Netherlands, celebrates King Willem-Alexander’s Birthday, and members of the Royal Family attend celebrations in a different city each year. Continue reading

Today the Scandinavian Crown Princely Couples had an online meeting over zoom, with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark joining in from Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg in Copenhagen, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden at Haga Palace in Sweden, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway at Skaugum in Norway. There are a variety of illustrious Royal and Noble Jewels on Auction at the Bonhams London Jewels Sale on April 28, most notably three pendants from the collection of Margaret, Duchess of Somerset, with royal provenance, as well as two splendid bracelets from the collection of Anne, Countess of Rosse, the mother-in-law of Princess Margaret.

Anzac Day 2021

The Duke of Cambridge and the Princess Royal marked Anzac Day on April 25th, commemorating all Australians and New Zealanders killed in war and honouring returned servicemen and women. Anzac Day has been commemorated in London since the first anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli in 1916, when King George V attended a service at Westminster Abbey and more than 2,000 Australian and New Zealand troops marched through the streets, becoming an important moment to recognise the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who died at Gallipoli in the First World War and during the D-Day landings during the Second World War, and to honour the sacrifices of men and women in all wars. Anzac Day is commemorated as a public holiday in both countries with memorial ceremonies held at various locations.

Princess Muna’s Tiaras

Happy Birthday to Princess Muna of Jordan, who turns 80 today! The British commoner who was the  as the second wife of King Hussein, she remains a valued member of the Jordanian Royal Family as the mother current King Abdullah II of Jordan. As the Jordanian Queen for 10 years, Princess Muna wore a variety of jewels, so to mark her 80th birthday, we are featuring Princess Muna’s Tiaras (and a necklace)!

Spanish Royal Family launch Submarine

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain were accompanied by the Princess of Asturias and the Infanta Sofía, as they presided over the launching ceremony of Submarine S-81 “Isaac Peral”, at the Navantia Shipyard in Cartagena on April 22nd, the first of a series of four submarines that will enter service in the Spanish Navy in the coming years. Mellerio Shell Tiara

Today marks the 90th anniversary of the death of Infanta Isabel of Spain, Princess of Asturias and Countess of Girgenti, popularly known as La Chata! The eldest daughter of Queen Isabel II, sister of King Alfonso XII and aunt of King Alfonso XIII, who was briefly married to a Prince of the Bourbon Two Sicilies, the Infanta was a beloved member of the Spanish royal family, considered one of the best assets of the monarchy and died at age 79, in exile, in Paris, right after the fall of the monarchy. To mark this anniversary, we are taking a look at one of her most iconic jewels, the Mellerio Shell Tiara, in an article written by our new assistant editor, David Rato, who runs the Spanish Royal Jewels account on Instagram!
