Wedding of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, 1981

Royal Guests and Relatives from Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Britain, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Sweden, The Netherlands, and Spain joined the Grand Ducal Family to celebrate the Wedding of Hereditary Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and María Teresa Mestre y Batista in Luxembourg on this day in 1981!

Hereditary Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg married María Teresa Mestre y Batista in a Roman Catholic Ceremony at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg City.

Earlier, Hereditary Grand Duke Henri and  María Teresa Mestre y Batista had gotten married a Civil Ceremony at the Palais Grand Ducal in Luxembourg.

Following both ceremonies, the Hereditary Grand Duke and Hereditary Grand Duchess appeared on the Balcony of the Palais Grand Ducal. The Grand Duke later described his wedding day as:

This day I will always remember as the day that was such great joy. I will not conceal that I was a little excited about the enormous appeal, which had found our wedding in the media. At that moment, but in which my fiancee walked into the cathedral, any nervousness was gone, and I knew that we would now be forever by two for the tasks that would put life and my function to us to overcome together. This moment is one of my best memories.”

Hereditary Grand Duchess María Teresa wore the Congo Diamond Necklace Tiara and her Wedding Earrings with a Balmain gown.

  1. Five kids, four grandkids, and 37 years later, they look wonderful! She was such a darling bride, so petite and cute, sparkling in the Congo Diamond Necklace Tiara and her beautiful Balmain wedding dress. He, of course, was the epitome of the dashing prince in his dress uniform and saber. I wish them many more years of joy!
