Happy Birthday to Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg, who turns 39 today! The Belgian Countess who is set to be the Consort of the world’s only Grand Duchy, she has access to an enormous collection of heirloom jewels, which includes this spectacular antique Turquoise Necklace!
A spectacular antique Turquoise and Diamond Necklace composed of large turquoises set within an ornate diamond palmette and floral frame of hanging pendants, the necklace is of unknown provenance but is likely an heirloom of the Grand Ducal Family, likely dating from the 1820s or 1830s, since it has similar elements to the Luxembourg Empire Tiara.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa first wore the antique Turquoise and Diamond Necklace in 2001, when she and the Grand Duke hosted Queen Silvia zinc Crown Princess Victoria for a ’Mentor Reception’ at the Grand Ducal Palace, but it was only in 2006 when the necklace, along with the Turquoise Tiara and another turquoise necklace, was given to the curator of the Grand Ducal Collection to be restored and made more wearable.
In 2007, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa wore the antique Turquoise and Diamond Necklace again, at a Return Gala for the Belgian Royal Family at the Fine Arts Museum in Brussels, during the Luxembourg State Visit to Belgium.
In 2018, the spectacular antique Turquoise and Diamond Necklace was worn by Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie with the Turquoise Tiara for the Luxembourg National Day Gala in 2018. There is no doubt we will continue to see this spectacular heirloom for years to come!
