Of unknown provenance, this spectacular Diamond Floral Tiara consists of compact diamond floral elements set within a dense diamond spray and is thought to be an heirloom of the House of Nassau, though it had not been publicly worn until the 1990s. It is likely that the Tiara dates from around the time that the antique Diamond Rose Brooches were created in the 19th century and it was possibly a corsage or another jewel before being converted into a tiara.

The Diamond Floral Tiara seems to have first been worn by the then Hereditary Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, for the Wedding Ball of Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein and her sister-in-law, Princess Margaretha of Luxembourg, at the Grand Ducal Palace in 1982 and also for a series of portraits taken not long after her marriage.

Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte was first pictured wearing the Diamond Floral Tiara for a French State Visit in 1992, and then, she wore the Tiara for Queen Margrethe II of Denmark’s 60th Birthday Banquet in 2000.

Hereditary Grand Duchess Maria Teresa also wore the Diamond Floral Tiara for the Belgian State Visit to Luxembourg in 1994, and more recently, it was worn for a National Day Gala at some point in the 2000s, with one of the heirloom Diamond Rose Brooches.

In 2008, the Diamond Floral Tiara was the first Tiara worn by the then 17-year old Princess Alexandra for the National Day Gala, and then a few years later, she wore it for the Wedding Gala of her brother, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg, and Countess Stephanie de Lannoy in 2012.

Also in 2008, Archduchess Marie Christine of Austria, the daughter of Princess Marie-Astrid of Luxembourg and Archduke Carl-Christian of Austria, wore the Diamond Floral Tiara when she married Count Rodolphe of Limburg-Stirum in Mechelen.

Four years later, in 2012, the Diamond Floral Tiara was worn by Adélaïde Drapé-Frisch, when she married Archduke Christoph, the son of Princess Marie-Astrid of Luxembourg and Archduke Carl-Christian of Austria,  in Nancy.

Most recently, the Diamond Floral Tiara was worn by Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie, for the Luxembourg National Day Gala in 2019. There is no doubt we will continue to see this heirloom worn for years to come!
