King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, joined by the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia, are in Oviedo this week to preside over the 2021 Princess of Asturias Awards, to deliver a series of prizes to individuals, entities or companies from around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs. Established in 1980, the Princess of Asturias Foundation is a private non-profit institution, whose objectives are to contribute to the exaltation and promotion of how many scientific, cultural and humanistic values ​​are universal heritage and consolidate their links to the Principality of Asturias. Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived in the City of Winnipeg during their extensive Tour of Canada on this day in 1951, different phases of which we are individually covering over the next few weeks. Queen Marie Antoinette’s Diamond Bracelets

Today marks the 170th Anniversary of the death of Princess Marie Thérèse of France, Duchess of Angoulêmewho died on this day in 1851! Madame Royale was the eldest daughter of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette and the only one who survived the revolution and reached adulthood. In 1799, she married her first cousin, Louis Antoine, Duke de Angoulême and the couple served as King and Queen of France for approximately 20 minutes in 1830. Princess Yolanda’s Diamond Tiara

Today marks the 35th Anniversary of the Death of Princess Yolanda of Savoy, Countess of Bergolo, who died on this day in 1986! The eldest daughter of wartime King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy, Princess Yolanda eschewed a royal match and married an Italian Count, living a quiet life in Italy througout the upheavals of the 20th century. British State Visit to China, 1986

Coming soon after the fractious negotiations about the return of Hong Kong to China, the first visit by a British Monarch to People’s Republic China was a symbol of skillful diplomacy and considered a milestone in Anglo-Chinese relations.
