Today marks the 140th Anniversary of the Birth of King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden was born on this day in 1882! The Swedish King who married first a granddaughter and later a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, the King is the grandfather of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, so thus members of the Danish, Norwegian, and Greek Royal Families joined the Swedish Royal Family to celebrate the King’s Birthdays in 1942, 1952, 1962 and 1972! The Jewels of Queen Liliʻuokalani of Hawaii

Today marks the 105th Anniversary of the Death of Queen Liliʻuokalani of Hawaii, who passed away on this day in 1917! The accomplished Princess who became the only Queen Regnant and the last Sovereign of the Hawaiian Kingdom, Queen Liliʻuokalani possessed a lovely jewellery collection, some of which are now on display her former Residence, the ʻIolani Palace in Honolulu!

Italian State Visit to The Netherlands

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands are hosting Italian President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter, Laura Mattarella, on their three-day State Visit to The Netherlands from November 9th to the 11th to promote and celebrate diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties, and  deepening of the cooperation to a stronger, more sustainable and safer Europe. The Dutch King and Queen went on a State Visit to Italy in 2017, while the last Italian State Visit was in 2003.

Queen Désirée’s Lava Parure

Today marks the 145th Anniversary of the Birth of Queen Désirée/Desideria of Sweden, who was born on this day in 1777! The daughter of a silk manufacturer and merchant who was a former fiancée of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte before marrying his leading general, who became King Charles XIV John of Sweden, making her the first Bernadotte Queen of Sweden. We have already covered Queen Désirée’s Ruby Parure and her Ears of Wheat Tiara, so today, we are featuring her striking Lava Parure!
