The Queen hosted a reception to mark the launch of the UK India Year of Culture 2017 at Buckingham Palace on February 27th. She was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl of Wessex, Princess Eugenie and and other members of the Royal Family.The reception brought together the best of British and Indian culture and creativity, in honour of the 70th anniversary of India’s Independence this year. Royal Tiaras 2016
As part of our Year in review series, we take a look at the the Royal Tiaras of 2016. With the grand 70th Birthday celebrations of King Carl XVI Gustav to the guests at the Albanian Royal Wedding in October, this year has been filled with Royal Tiaras. Here we will look at the Tiaras from each country. This is by no means a comprehensive list, as we haven’t covered Japan or exiled royal families, but it includes events we have covered on this blog. British Royal Tiaras 2016
2016 was quite a low key tiara year in Britain, compared to 2015, when their were six tiara appearances for the Queen, five tiara appearances for the Duchess of Cornwall, and two tiara appearances for the Duchess of Cambridge. This year the Queen and Duchess of Cornwall repeated their tiaras, which combined with the Spanish State visit in March being canceled and the Queen not making an outgoing summer State Visit, left many Royal Watchers disappointed by the lack of glitter. The Queen held a reception to celebrate the work & Patronages of Princess Alexandra in honour of her 80th Birthday in December. Duke of Westminster’s Memorial Service
Members of the British Royal family joined mourners to pay tribute to the sixth Duke of Westminster at a service in Chester Cathedral on November 28th. The Duke, who was Britain’s third richest man and the richest property developer in the UK, died on August 9th. Continue reading
Duke and Duchess of Gloucester at Guildhall Banquet
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester represented the Queen at the Guildhall Banquet for President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia on the evening of November 2nd. The President and First Lady of Colombia are on a 5-day State Visit to the United Kingdom. The Banquet was hosted by the Lord Mayor of London. There were speeches by President Santos and the Lord Mayor.
Colombian State Visit to Britain
The Queen is hosting President Juan Manuel Santos and First Lady María Clemencia Rodríguez Múnera of Colombia on their 5-day State Visit to the United Kingdom. The President and First Lady attended the Official Welcome, before lunch with the Queen and tea at Clarence House. In the evening, a State Banquet was held at Buckingham Palace. Continue reading

The Queen hosted a reception for Olympic and Paralympic medalists at Buckingham Palace in the evening of October 18th. TRH’s the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester visited Gloucester Cathedral on August 1st. The Duke and Duchess met choristers and viewed a performance of the Three Choirs Festival.
Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Wimbledon
TRH the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge attended the last day of Wimbledon on July 10th. They watched Scotland’s Andy Murray take on Canadian Milos Raonic in the Gentlemen’s Final. The Royal couple were joined by PM David Cameron, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, and actor Benedict Cumberbatch, among a host of other celebrities and members of the Royal family. Continue reading

The British Royal Family attended commemorations for the Battle of the Somme Centenary in France on July 1st. The Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, Sir Timothy Laurence, and the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester attended a service at the Thiepval Memorial. Happy Birthday to HRH the Duchess of Gloucester! The Danish-born Birgitte Eva Henriksen didn’t expect to become Duchess when she married Prince Richard of Gloucester, a cousin of the Queen Elisabeth II, in 1972, but the death of his brother, Prince William, six weeks after the wedding, and his father two years later, brought the couple to the center of the Royal stage. They have supported the Queen ever since. As Duchess of Gloucester, Birgitte has attended many official events and represented the Queen on foreign visits. The Gloucester’s have managed to keep their jewel collection almost intact, unlike their cousins the Kents. The Duchess has worn the many Gloucester Tiaras at State events for over 50 years! Royal Ascot is a permanent fixture on the British Royal Family’s June calendar. HM the Queen attends all five days of the horse-racing event, while most members of the Royal Family attend on Ladies Day, the climax of the event. Patron’s Lunch at Buckingham Palace
The Patron’s Lunch, the much anticipated finale to the Queen’s Birthday Celebrations, was held on the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace on June 12th. The lunch, held for the Queen’s Patronages, was planned by her grandson, Peter Phillips. Members of the Royal Family attended with the Queen, excepting the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall who were attending a street party. There was a lunch, a royal walkabout, followed by speeches, and and a parade. Continue reading
Trooping the Colour 2016
The British Royal Family attended the Trooping the Colour, the official birthday of the Queen, in London on June 12th. The Royals rode in carriages to inspect he guards, and then watched a flypast on the Balcony of Buckingham Palace. This was the second event for the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations in June, there was a Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on June 11th, and the Patron’s Lunch will be held on June 13th. Queen’s 90th Birthday Thanksgiving Service
The British Royal Family attended a Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral in honour of the Queen’s 90th Birthday on June 10th. This was the first of the three events to be held this month, the finale of the Queen’ 90th Birthday celebrations. Garden Party at Buckingham Palace
HM Queen Elisabeth II held a Garden party at Buckingham Palace on the afternoon of May 24th. This was the Queen’s last Garden Party held at Buckingham Palace this Season. The Queen will host a Garden Party at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh later this summer. HM was accompanied by members of the British Royal family. Continue reading
