The Danish and Belgian Royal Courts have announced that King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark will be making a State Visit to Belgium at the invitation of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium from September 8-10, which follows the Belgian State Visit to Denmark in 2017.
Their Majesties King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark will pay a state visit to Belgium on 8-10 September 2026 at the invitation of Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.
The state visit is intended to mark the community of values between Belgium and Denmark: In a changing time marked by geopolitical shifts and increased demands for European action, Denmark and Belgium stand together in the ambition of a strong and competitive Europe that safeguards our common values. The state visit is also a meeting between two monarchies, both of which create continuity and stability in their countries during periods of change.
The state visit begins in Brussels with an official reception at Place des Palais with the Belgian Royal Couple, as well as meetings with the Prime Minister, the Federal Parliament and the city’s mayor. There will be a gala dinner at Laeken Castle in the evening.
On September 9, the visit to the Belgian region of Wallonia continues with a tour of the Lauzelle Forest accompanied by researchers and students from the University of Louvain, who will talk about the forest, which is at once an active ecological restoration project, a field laboratory and a public park.
Back in Brussels, representatives of approximately 40 Danish companies on business promotion within energy and life science will receive a royal visit. The Danish royal couple will then participate in the celebration of the 50th anniversary in the Danish church in Brussels. In the evening, the Danish royal couple will host a return event.
On September 10, the royal couple will be in the region of Flanders, where they will gain insight into Antwerp’s development from a classic port city to now also being one of Europe’s most vibrant cultural cities. There will be a lunch reception on the Royal Ship Dannebrog with a cruise in the harbor, before the visit ends with an official farewell at the Dannebrog.
The Danish and Belgian Royal Families have a long and close family relationship (which we will explore further in September,) with a Belgian State Visit to Denmark in 1966, the Danish State Visit to Belgium in 1968, a Danish State Visit to Belgium in 1976, the Belgian State Visit to Denmark in 1995 and the last Danish State Visit to Belgium in 2002 before the Belgian State Visit to Denmark in 2017.
The final program and press program for the visit will be published later.
