Queen Mathilde’s Emerald Earrings

Happy Birthday to Princess Eléonore of Belgium, who turns 18th today! The youngest of the four children of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium is currently a student but has already worn Queen Mathilde’s Emerald and Diamond Earrings!

Each featuring a tear-drop-shaped emerald suspended from two-marquise cut and round diamonds, the exact origin of these Emerald and Diamond Earrings is unknown, but they were acquired by the then Duke of Brabant at Court Jeweller Maison Leysen as a gift for Queen Mathilde’s 40th Birthday.

The then Princess Mathilde first wore the Emerald and Diamond Earrings for a striking portrait released on her 40th Birthday in January 2013.

The Emerald and Diamond Earrings were worn by Queen Mathilde at a Dinner for the Canadian General-Governor at the Château de Laeken and to receive the King and Queen of Spain at the Royal Palace of Brussels in 2014.

Queen Mathilde also wore the Emerald and Diamond Earrings on a visit to Austria in 2018, to Belgian Royal Academy for Medicine in 2019, and at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in 2023.

More recently, Queen Mathilde’s Emerald Earrings were worn by her younger daughter, Princess Eléonore, for Belgian National Day in 2025. There is no doubt these Earrings will be worn for years to come!
