The Norwegian Royal Family joined King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway as they hosted the annual Gala Dinner for Members of the Norwegian Parliament (Stortingsmiddag) at the Royal Palace of Oslo on October 23rd.
King Harald V and Queen Sonja were joined by Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Astrid as they the processed through the Speilsalen, Small Dining Room, Small Ballroom, and the Great Ballroom into the Banqueting Hall, for the Stortingsmiddag Banquet.
Queen Sonja wore a Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara, Pearl Necklace and Earrings, Drapers’ Company Brooch and the Sash & Star of the Order of St. Olav with King Harald’s Family Order while King Harald wore White Tie with the Sash & Star of the Order of St. Olav and the Collar of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.
Crown Prince Haakon wore White Tie with the Sash & Star of the Order of St. Olav and the Collar of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit while Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore Diamond Daisy Bandeau, her Pendant Earrings, Princess Ragnhild’s Pearl Brooch, a Diamond Rivière from Queen Maud, and Queen Maud’s Order of Victoria and Albert Bracelet with the Order of St. Olav and the Royal Family Order of King Harald V.
Princess Astrid wore her Ruby Aigrette Tiara and the Sash & Star of the Order of St. Olav with Family Orders of King Haakon, King Olav, and King Harald.
I must say that Crown Princess Mette-Marit looked very elegant with the red gown. I noticed that she was also, like Princess Astrid, wearing several miniature medals in addition to the portrait of King Harald in a bejewelled frame. Again she borrowed the Victoria and Albert bracelet from her daughter. Not being afraid of borrowing jewels by the looks of it, it would have been cool to see her borrow one of Queen Sonja’s tiaras (one of the lesser ones, obviously).
With all these loans, I don’t think it’s long before she’ll be wearing Princess Ingeborg’s Pearl Tiara.
I wouldn’t be surprised, though I wish it won’t come to that. Not because I would hate to see it, but I feel that this tiara should be linked to Princess Ingrid Alexandra. It suits her so well and it was *her* gift and it’s not like the Norwegian Royal Family is lacking in tiaras, both grand ones but also smaller ones that she could choose to wear and maybe make part of her look instead of “encrouching” on her daughter’s image.
