Happy Birthday to Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, who turns 19 today! The accomplished Princess set to be the first Queen Regnant of Norway in centuries, Princess Ingrid Alexandra will one day possess the entirety of the spectacular Norwegian Royal Jewellery Collection, and in the past year since gaining her majority, she has worn several spectacular heirloom jewels, including Crown Princess Märtha’s Art Deco Diamond Bracelet!
This spectacular Art Deco Diamond Bracelet of unknown provenance may have been in Crown Princess Märtha’s collection before her exile in the United States during the Second World War, though it appeared soon after the Royal Family’s return to Norway in 1945, like Queen Juliana’s Inauguration Gala in 1948, a series of Official Portraits in 1949, the American-Scandinavian Foundation 40th Anniversary Dinner in 1950, the Confirmation of King Harald.
Following Crown Princess Märtha’s tragic death in 1953, her Art Deco Diamond Bracelet was among the jewels that went to her elder daughter, Princess Ragnhild, who wore it for a plethora of gala occasions through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, usually with Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Circle Tiara and Queen Maud’s Diamond Tiara, including Crown Prince Harald’s 40th Birthday in 1977, Crown Prince Haakon’s Confirmation in 1988, and King Harland and Queen Sonja’s Silver Anniversary in 1993, as well as for the Wedding of Princess Märtha Louise of Norway in Trondheim in 2002.
After Princess Ragnhild’s death in 2012, Crown Princess Märtha’s Art Deco Diamond Bracelet was among the jewels returned to the Norwegian Royal Vaults and not retained by her children. While Princess Ragnhild’s children presented Princess Ingrid Alexandra with Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Circle Tiara, King Harald gifted his granddaughter with Crown Princess Märtha’s Art Deco Diamond Bracelet, an image of which was displayed during the 18th Birthday Celebrations, since it was being worn.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra first wore Crown Princess Märtha’s Art Deco Diamond Bracelet with Princess Ingeborg’s Boucheron Pearl Circle Tiara for her 18th Birthday Banquet at the Royal Palace of Oslo. There is no doubt we will continue to see this spectacular Royal Heirloom worn for years to come!
