The Diamond Tiara is composed of a dense, diamond-packed design, with various antique motifs, and was beloved to have been a gift to Princess Alexia from her parents, King Constantine and Queen Anne Marie, or from her grandmother, Queen Ingrid, though the provenance is mysterious.

The Diamond Tiara was first photographed on Princess Alexia’s aunt, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, for a Gala when she received an honorary degree from Queen Mother at the University of London in 1980. Queen Margrethe may have borrowed the Tiara from her sister, who lived in London in those days.

The earliest appearance of the Diamond Tiara on Princess Alexia came at Queen Margrethe’s 50th Birthday’s Banquet in 1990, after which it was worn at King Harald and Queen Sonja’s Silver Wedding Anniversary in 1993.

Princess Alexia also wore the Diamond Tiara for the Wedding of her cousin, Prince Joachim of Denmark, and Alexandra Manley, in 1995, Queen Margrethe’s Silver Jubilee in 1997, and the Wedding of her cousin, Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, and Count Jefferson von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth in 1998

In April 2000, Princess Alexia wore the Tiara for the Gala Performance and the Banquet during the 60th Birthday Celebrations of her aunt, Queen Margrethe of Denmark.

Princess Alexia wore her Diamond Tiara with Crown Princess Margareta’s Amethyst Brooch at the Wedding of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway in 2001 and with her Ruby Bow Brooch  at the Wedding of her cousin, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, in 2004.

The Diamond Tiara was also worn with the  Modern Diamond Necklace and Ruby Bow Brooch to King Harald’s 70th Birthday Banquet in 2007, and for Prince Joachim’s second wedding in 2008.

In 2010, Princess Alexia wore her Tiara on two occasions during Queen Margrethe’s 70th Birthday Celebrations, for the Gala Performance and Dinner.

The last time Princess Alexia was pictured wearing her Diamond Tiara was at the Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Prince Daniel of Sweden in 2010.

In 2013, Princess Alexia loaned her Diamond Tiara to her younger sister, Princess Theodora of Greece, for the Wedding of Princess Madeline of Sweden.

Princess Theodora also wore the Diamond Tiara for the Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee Gala in 2022.
