The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester joined King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium for the annual Belgian Parade and Service of Remembrance to remember the fallen of Belgium and the United Kingdom in the Two World Wars at The Cenotaph in London on July 13th.
The King (wearing the Order of Leopold) and Queen, joined by the Duke (in the Order of the Garter) and Duchess of Gloucester, attended the Ceremony at the Cenotaph in London the ceremony in memory of the Belgians who fell during the two World Wars, in the presence of Belgian and British veterans and various detachments of the Belgian army.
Belgium is the only non-Commonwealth country that has been allowed to parade in full armour and on the streets of London since 1934. This privilege was granted by King George V shortly after the death of his cousin, King Albert I, in honour of the heroism and sacrifices of the Belgian army during the First World War. This Belgian parade takes place every year, usually on the weekend before the Belgian national holiday.
