Happy Birthday to Princess Charlene of Monaco, who turns 46 today! The South African Olympic Swimmer who became the Consort of the small Mediterranean Principality, the Princess is not known for wearing many jewels, but possesses some spectacular ocean-themed jewellery, which includes this Infinite Cascade Necklace!

When Prince Albert II of Monaco was marrying Charlene Wittstock in 2011, major jewellery houses were asked to submit sketches for jewels for the new Princess, who choose this striking necklace composed of eighteen-karat rose gold, set with 1,237 white diamonds in round and baguette cuts alongside six large pear-shaped pearls, which was designed by the Lebanese Tabbah Jewellers, with significant input from the bride, reflecting the ocean-theme of her Ocean Tiara and Diamond Foam Tiara.
Nagib Tabbah said:
The design of the necklace is imbued with fluid structure: ripples that at once wrap, as if to protect, the neck, while simultaneously cascading over the collar bone where the large pearls drop, their individual settings ensuring delicate sparkle and warm glow as they catch the light.”
Following their Civil Ceremony at the Palais Princier, the Prince and new Princess of Monaco attended a special Jean Michel Jarre Concert at the Port of Monaco, with Princess Charlene wearing her new Infinite Cascade Necklace.
Princess Charlene paired her Necklace with a strapless Karl Lagerfeld outfit, which she had worn under her coat for the civil ceremony.
The Wedding Concert was the only public appearance of the Infinite Cascade Necklace on the Princess Charlene, which has also not been exhibited unlike many of Princess Charlene’s other jewels. Lets hope we see it worn again soon!

I find it strange that having chosen this piece herself and having had an input in the design, Charlene only wore it the once. Same with her tiaras, whose appearances are as rare as hens’ teeth. Why didn’t she say to Albert “Actually I love earrings and bracelets, give me some of those instead”?
