Crown Prince Olav (in the Order of St. Olav) and Crown Princess Märtha of Norway (wearing Queen Alexandra’s Diamond Chandelier Earrings and the Order of St. Olav) were joined by Eleanor Roosevelt as they presided over the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s 40th Anniversary Dinner in New York City on this day in 1950. The Crown Princess had spent the duration of the Second World War in the United States, where she became close friends with the Roosevelt family, and a new tv series about that time has just been released:
