Of unknown provenance, these antique Diamond Star Earrings are of unknown provenance and were likely a gift for christening a ship or an inheritance. The first appearance of the Earrings came in the mid-1950s, being worn with the Cartier Halo Tiara for a Tour of the Caribbean in 1955, and later made a few appearences in the 1960s, though they were not publicly worn much in the following years.

After Princess Margaret’s death in 2002, while many of her jewels were sold by her children at the famous 2006 Christie’s Auction, the Diamond Star Earrings was inherited by her only daughter, Lady Sarah, who has worn them almost as frequently as the Greville Pearl Earrings, for countless occasions both in the daytime and also in the evening, usually for Royal Ascot, Christmas at Sandringham, and the Queen’s Christmas Lunch at Buckingham Palace.

There have been numerous appearences of the Diamond Star Earrings this year, with Lady Sarah wearing them for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Memorial Service at Westminster Abbey in March, Royal Ascot in June, and also the National Gallery’s Inaugural Summer Party and Fundraiser. There is no doubt we will continue to see these royal heirloom for years to come!
