The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh began their 6-month Commonwealth Tour in the Caribbean in November 1952, which made Jamaica the second territory visited by the newly Crowned Queen. The Queen and Duke paid a visit in 1966, during an extensive Tour of fifteen Commonwealth Realms and Crown Colonies. The Queen has since visited in 1975 (for CHOGM), 1983, 1994, and 2002, for her Golden Jubilee.

Princess Margaret first visited Jamaica in 1955, on an extensive Tour of the Caribbean Realms and Territories, and then returned in 1962, for the most important Royal Visit of all: when she presided over the Independence Celebrations, which included a variety of glittering evening events, for which the Princess wore her Turquoise Parure, the Halo Scroll Tiara, and the Lotus Flower Tiara.
